Who is “Service Guy” and what does he do?

Service Guy is Ian Knight, formerly of Central Theatre Supplies offering repair & service for a variety of theatrical equipment such as Zero88, Strand Lighting, Selecon, Anytronics, Furse, CCT & many others. I’m also a stage lighting designer of 40 years experience covering drama, dance, Irish dance, asian dance, musical theatre and installation specification for churches, drama studios & theatres.

Computing/IT Support

The Service Guy offers home computer repairs, malware removal, broadband & wireless setup, new computer setup, all done in your home so you don’t need to unplug cables to take it to the computer shop. Whilst I’m based in Coventry, I’m happy to travel throughout the West Midlands, Warwickshire or further afield if needed.

I can also offer IT support services for small businesses looking to upgrade equipment or add new printers. I’m also experienced in creating small websites using WordPress which is ideal for making you visible on the internet. It might be you just want a custom eMail address for your new business, I can set that up too.

Theatre Skills

Amongst my skillset is Set building, production management, lighting design, sound mixing and setup. This is based on 40 years at the Criterion Theatre Coventry, The Albany Theatre Coventry, Belgrade Theatre and other venues about the West Midlands. During 19 years at Central Theatre Supplies I worked on a variety of spaces such as churches, village halls and schools. I’ve also specified and quoted a wide range of hardware most recent being the new studio space at Coventry’s Albany Theatre – link.

Consulting

I have experience in Lighting, sound, staging and drapes so am able to give impartial, valid advice on your space or your proposed space. I’m not an equipment supplier, so I don’t have a preferred brand or end of line stock to move on.

I’m happy to work with you in compiling a specification, reviewing a specification you’ve already got or reviewing quotes for work, I can tailor my rates to suit your project. It might be for projects I feel are worthy, I may give some time free of charge.

Equipment Servicing & Repair for Zero88, Strand Lighting

Because of my longstanding relationship with Zero88, I’m an authorised service centre specialising in repairing “legacy” Zero88 products. I’m also able to service/repair newer Zero88 desks such as Solution and Orb with full access to OEM parts, I am also authorised to carry out Zero88 Warranty repair. If you have original BetaPacks, Sirius or Lightmaster desks that need repair or servicing then I can help & I carry spares too. You can read more here.

I have considerable experience in maintaining early Rank Strand/Strand Lighting desks, dimmers and lanterns e.g. Tempus dimmer racks, consoles, Patt 123’s and Patt 23’s. I can refurbish older theatre lanterns by replacing the mains cable & plug so you can use them with newer 15a plug systems. We can PAT test the finished equipment and issue the necessary paperwork to prove it’s been tested and is electrically safe.

If you need basic desk training on Zero88 Jester Series, Solution or their older desks such as Sirius 24 then I can do that too.

Can you sell me theatre supplies?

The simple answer is “No…” I simply don’t have space to carry the stock needed. I can sell parts for equipment e.g. a fader for a Zero88 Solution but I can’t sell the Solution itself. PAT Testing

If you’re looking for PAT testing of appliances, we’re able to do that using industry recognised equipment and labelling. Small businesses need to ensure their equipment is electrically safe too & it increasingly affects musicians & performers equipment too.
